Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a 75-minute Independence Day speech from the Red Fort on Saturday, his shortest in four years and fourth shortest overall. His address lasted 103 minutes last year and 98 minutes in 2024. His shortest speech remains the 56-minute address in 2017, India Today reports. It was Modi’s 13th consecutive Independence Day speech from the Red Fort, taking him past Indira Gandhi’s 12 and behind Jawaharlal Nehru’s 17. Nehru’s 72-minute speech in 1947 and I K Gujral’s 71-minute address in 1997 were the longest on record. Nehru and Indira Gandhi delivered the shortest, at 14 minutes each.
