# Modi urges Gen Z to promote handloom in Instagram reel

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 6 urged people to mark National Handloom Day by sharing videos of their favourite handloom products, including ‘Get Ready With Me’ posts. In the reel, he linked the August 7 observance to the Swadeshi Movement, which began on August 7, 1905, and called for support to weaver families and India’s handloom diversity. Hindustan Times reports that Abhijeet Dipke, founder of the Cockroach Janta Party, replied “prime influencer” to the post. Dipke later asked Modi to address young people in his Independence Day speech and outline steps for them. National Handloom Day has been observed since 2015.
