# Mohun Bagan beat NorthEast United on penalties to reach Durand Cup final 2026-08-20T14:06:24+00:00 | Sports | Indian Opinion Desk Corroboration: 2 independent outlets (3 source reports) Mohun Bagan Super Giant defeated NorthEast United FC 4-3 on penalties in the Durand Cup 2026 semifinal in Shillong on Wednesday, with goalkeeper Vishal Kaith saving two spot-kicks. The match had ended 0-0 after regulation time. Sportstar reports that heavy rain affected the pitch and play, and that Mohun Bagan’s new signing Drazic missed the match due to injury, being replaced by Nassiri in the starting XI. NorthEast United entered the match as defending champions and on a four-match winning streak. Alaaeddine Ajaraie had scored nine goals in the tournament, while Sahal Abdul Sahal had five for Mohun Bagan. NDTV Sports reports that Kaith proved to be the hero once again for the Mariners. Mohun Bagan will now face East Bengal in the final. ## Indian Opinion Analysis Both Sportstar and NDTV Sports provided neutral match-report style coverage with no discernible slant. The coverage focused on the weather, team form, and the penalty shootout. The only difference is that NDTV Sports’ headlines highlighted Kaith’s saves, while Sportstar’s live blog also gave equal attention to the rain and the absence of Drazic. The key takeaway for a careful reader is that Mohun Bagan’s defence held firm against a high-scoring opponent, and that Kaith’s penalty heroics have now become a pattern for the team in knockout matches. The final against East Bengal will be the next test. ## Coverage Coverage: 3 sources, 3 neutral - sportstar.thehindu.com (neutral report) Straight live blog with match facts, no editorial slant - sports.ndtv.com (neutral report) Straight match report, no editorial slant - sports.ndtv.com (2) (neutral report) Match highlights with no editorial slant This story was synthesised by AI from the 3 sources linked above.
