Madhya Pradesh will deploy over 100 armed guards, 16 permanent check posts, 35 CCTV cameras and an AI monitoring system at 44 sensitive ghats in the Chambal Wildlife Sanctuary by September. The move follows a Supreme Court suo motu case against illegal sand mining that threatens critically endangered gharials and Gangetic dolphins. Forest guards will receive 12-bore pump-action guns after the state granted them immunity from prosecution in firearm cases. Officials said 145 guards and 45 foresters from Morena division will undergo training under police supervision before deployment.
