# CBI, Mumbai Police Arrest 16 in Separate Cyber Fraud Cases

The CBI has arrested four people in Punjab and Delhi for allegedly running a tech-support fraud network targeting US citizens. The agency said the suspects posed as Microsoft, bank and law enforcement officials, and extorted cryptocurrency payments through fake call centres. Searches yielded phones, laptops, cash and crypto wallets. Separately, Mumbai Police arrested 12 people in Goa over an alleged racket involving fake bank accounts, SIM cards and online gaming transactions. India’s Supreme Court has directed the RBI to issue a procedure for temporary debit holds on mule accounts and urged States to operationalise e-Zero FIRs. The Hindu reports that Rs 18.05 crore has been restored in 36,290 cases.
