# Naga peace talks move to ministerial panel, says Rio

Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio said the Centre has formed a committee led by a Union minister of state for home affairs to conduct the Naga peace talks. He said the move followed the state cabinet’s February meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, which sought negotiations at a higher political level. Rio urged the panel to reach out urgently to all negotiating parties. Independence Day events in Nagaland also saw student parade contingents stay away after the Naga Students’ Federation opposed mandatory singing of the full version of Vande Mataram at official functions. Deccan Herald reports that the 1997 ceasefire with the NSCN(IM) has largely held, despite the absence of a final settlement, while criticising the Modi government’s handling of the process.
