The discovery that solar winds might generate water on the moon holds practical implications for India’s space exploration ambitions. The identified process could support global initiatives focusing on long-term lunar habitation by enabling resource self-sufficiency-a critical objective in India’s own Moon programs, such as Chandrayaan. Given these findings, India’s focus may expand toward leveraging our advanced robotics and ISRO’s existing expertise in polar exploration to contribute further research into icy “cold traps” near lunar poles.
Additionally, India stands poised to benefit from international collaborations targeting sustainable off-Earth ecosystems.With growing interest in mining resources beyond Earth (including potential utilization of stored water as fuel), this study reinforces aspirations for participation in future multilateral efforts developing harvestable lunar infrastructure.
