# NCDRC enhances Manipal acid attack compensation to Rs 17.21 lakh

The National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) has increased compensation for an acid attack victim from Rs 13.19 lakh to Rs 17.21 lakh, LiveLaw reports. The Commission found that the Karnataka State Commission wrongly assessed the victim’s permanent disability at 50%, ignoring a 75% disability certificate from St. John’s Medical College & Hospital. Sri Ramanathan M., a pharmacist at Manipal Hospital, Bengaluru, was attacked by a staff nurse in 2007, suffering severe facial burns and requiring 12 surgeries. The NCDRC enhanced compensation for facial disfigurement to Rs 12.06 lakh. The order is subject to a separate pending revision by insurer PNB MetLife.
