# Netflix’s Kargil War series misses key intelligence failures, says ex-IAF officer

Netflix has premiered a six-part series on the 1999 Kargil War titled 'Operation Safed Sagar', calling it its biggest-ever production in India at an estimated Rs 200 crore. The series, streaming from today, uses 1,200 local VFX technicians and got unprecedented access to the Indian Air Force, filming at 16,000 feet altitude. But a retired IAF air vice marshal writes in Hindustan Times that the slick retelling misses crucial lessons. He points out that Pakistan caught India napping, a fact the Kargil Review Committee confirmed, and that intelligence failures cost 527 Indian lives. The series, he says, cannot substitute for organisational eptitude or the unfinished work of military jointness.
