The State Water Transport Department's new floating boat jetty at Kamalakadavu in Fort Kochi is expected to start services before Onam. Final electrical works are under way at the facility, built with Cochin Smart Mission Ltd funds. The jetty adjusts to water levels and can hold over 100 people. It will reduce the walk to the beach and bus stop, and fares are expected at Rs 20, cheaper than Water Metro's Rs 30-40. SWTD official Kalesh Kumar said it provides a direct link from the mainland to the tourist core. Safety features include life buoys and a watchman. Initially, one schedule per day is planned, with more on Sundays.
