# NHRC Flags 50+ Child Sex Abuse Cases on Instagram, Notices Meta

The National Human Rights Commission has received over 50 complaints of child sexual exploitation and abuse material (CSEAM) on Instagram in the past week. NHRC member Priyank Kanoongo issued notices to police chiefs of Punjab, Delhi, Telangana, Maharashtra, Odisha, West Bengal, Haryana and Bihar, directing them to register FIRs and take action. A separate notice was sent to Meta, asking it to comply with Indian laws on child safety. The matter has also been flagged to the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. Separately, the NHRC summoned the Delhi Police Commissioner for failing to submit an action taken report on earlier allegations that paid Instagram ads promoted CSAM and redirected users to Telegram channels. Meta chief Mark Zuckerberg apologised for child sexual abuse material after a meeting with IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on August 6, according to sources cited by NDTV.
