# NHRC seeks report, Karnataka issues notices on cab overcharging

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has asked the Delhi government to investigate allegations that app-based cab and auto aggregators are charging fares above notified rates, and submit a report within two weeks. Separately, the Karnataka transport department issued show-cause notices to Ola, Uber, Rapido and Namma Yatri for alleged violations of government-prescribed fare norms in Bengaluru. In Delhi, a complaint prompted the NHRC action, with commission member Priyank Kanoongo saying charging above state-fixed rates violates commuters' rights, as per inc42. The notified auto fare is Rs 30 for the first 1.5 km and Rs 11 per km thereafter. In Karnataka, the notices follow complaints from driver associations that aggregators were using time-based calculations instead of adhering to fares notified in February 2024. The aggregators have seven days to respond.
