The National Human Rights Commission has sought reports within two weeks from Madhya Pradesh’s chief secretary and Shivpuri superintendent of police over the alleged assault and casteist abuse of a Class 4 Dalit student by a teacher. The incident reportedly took place on July 28 at a government primary school in Ukawal village. The NHRC said the allegations, if true, involve serious human rights violations. The report said the teacher objected to the boy drinking water from his bottle, after which the child told his parents and the matter reached the police. The panel also sought a report from Haryana over the alleged death of a 12-year-old girl from jaundice linked to contaminated drinking water in Ambala district.
