The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday searched 13 locations in Tamil Nadu and Mizoram, part of its probe into a transnational drug network linked to the seizure of over 6,016 kg of methamphetamine from a Myanmarese boat near the Barren Islands in November 2024. The searches yielded digital devices, Rs 71 lakh in cash, $53,500, and Myanmar Kyat in Chennai, plus Rs 43.11 lakh from Mizoram's Champhai and Aizawl. Separately, Ramanathapuram police busted a local meth syndicate, seizing 1.4 kg of the drug valued at Rs 1.5 crore and unearthing a manufacturing lab, arresting nine people including the mastermind. The NIA case, initially registered by Andaman and Nicobar police, has six Myanmar nationals in judicial custody. The agency says it aims to uncover links to international syndicates.
