The circular, issued in June 2018, had restricted Mehta's overseas travel, he was initially named an accused in the case before being made an approver by court order in January 2021. Mehta's lawyer had argued the restriction was hampering his British citizen client's Hong Kong based business and travel to Thailand, Vietnam, Australia and Canada for client meetings. The ED's prosecutor initially opposed Mehta's plea to lift the circular before informing the court it had already been deleted.
