Nivin Pauly's Malayalam film Bethlehem Kudumba Unit has crossed Rs 20 crore at the Indian box office in its opening weekend, recovering nearly 70 percent of its Rs 30 crore production budget in 72 hours, according to early trends reported by Koimoi. The film, directed by Girish AD and co-starring Mamitha Baiju, recorded an occupancy of 77 percent across about 1,700 shows on Sunday, August 23. Koimoi reports that the film needs a net collection of Rs 60 crore to be declared a hit, and its worldwide collection is expected to hit Rs 100 crore over the week. The outlet also notes that the film is on track to become the sixth highest-grossing Malayalam film of 2026. Times Now reports that Bethlehem Kudumba Unit marks the second collaboration between Nivin Pauly and Mamitha Baiju after their 2023 Onam release Ramachandra Boss and Co, a heist comedy that underperformed at the box office. The new film, described as a romantic comedy about an age-gap relationship, was released on August 21 as part of the Onam season.

## Indian Opinion Analysis

Koimoi's coverage is sensationalist, leading with dramatic recovery percentages and success verdicts while omitting any critical context about the film's performance or reception. Times Now takes a neutral-report stance, focusing on the actors' reunion and the film's genre, without box office hype. The middle-ground reading is that the film has had a strong opening but needs sustained collections to become a hit, and the mixed reception of the actors' prior collaboration is worth noting. Watch for weekday hold figures and the official verdict after 10 days.
