The incident took place on June 6, 2018, in a village under Pingawan police station limits. According to the police, two men tried to grab the girl as she stepped out to dispose of garbage around 4.30 am. She escaped and told her family, who went to the accused's house to complain. The next day, about a dozen people, including the accused, attacked her family with sticks, causing a pregnant relative to suffer a miscarriage.
