Villagers said the nursery was washed away two or three times and the remaining seedlings were later eaten by stray bulls. Relatives and a local panchayat representative said Swain was under financial and mental stress and could not afford to raise seedlings again. Balikuda tehsildar Bikash Ranjan said no specific cause had been established and that the administration had received no complaint linking the death to crop damage.
