# Odisha to build gaushalas every 100 km on highways

Odisha will remove stray cattle from National Highways and house them in gaushalas built every 100 kilometres, Animal Resources Development Minister Gokulananda Mallik announced on Saturday. The Transport Department, NHAI and the Animal Resources Development Department will jointly implement the plan. Local Superintendents of Police will monitor the initiative. The government also plans to set up gaushalas in every block for cattle removed from roads. Social organisations will manage the shelters. Minister Mallik said the move aims to prevent accidents caused by stray animals on highways. A Standard Operating Procedure will be prepared.
