District administration has cautioned officers of concerned government departments to be ready to face the flood situation as two rivers – Krishna and Bhima – have been flowing fully with an increased quantum of water for a couple of days.
After catchments of Krishna and Bhima received torrential rains, the inflow to Basavasagar reservoir in Narayanapur and Sannati bridge cum barrage in Sannati was significantly increased, following which the authorities of Krishna Bhagya Jala Nigama Limited (KBJNL) began discharging water to rivers.
According to sources, the outflow river from Basavasagar reservoir on Friday was at 95,265 cusecs, while the inflow was at 1 lakh cusecs. The present water level in the reservoir stood at 490.70 m against 492.25 m. And outflow from Sannati Barrage to the Bhima was 15,000 cusecs.
Deputy Commissioner B. Susheela, who held a meeting recently, has given instructions to the officers to alert villagers of riverbanks, stopping them from going near rivers for any reason.
“Officers of Revenue and Rural Development and Panchayat Raj should extend coordination with each other to work effectively at the village level and alert people on increasing water levels through WhatsApp messages and personal visits,” Ms. Susheela said.
