Oscar-nominated director Mark Rydell, best known for On Golden Pond, has died at 97, The Hollywood Reporter reported. His daughter Amy Rydell said he died of natural causes at a retirement community in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles. The reports differ on the day of his death. Rydell directed On Golden Pond, which earned 10 Oscar nominations and won awards for Henry Fonda, Katharine Hepburn and adapted screenplay. The 1981 film was Henry Fonda’s final movie role. Rydell also directed The Fox, The Reivers, Cinderella Liberty, The Rose and The River, and worked with stars including Bette Midler, Steve McQueen and John Wayne.
