# Only 4 of Telangana’s 36 govt medical colleges make national top 144

Telangana has 36 government medical colleges offering over 4,400 MBBS seats, but only four made it to the top 144 in the IIRF 2026 rankings, according to The Hindu and Siasat reports. Gandhi Medical College in Secunderabad was the highest-ranked at 43rd, followed by Osmania Medical College at 52nd, Kakatiya Medical College at 60th, and Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences at 139th. AIIMS Delhi topped the national list. In the private category, Telangana performed better with 19 of its 29 private colleges featuring in the top 187, according to Siasat. Deccan College of Medical Sciences led at 24th nationally. The rankings are based on nine parameters including academic reputation, research outcomes, and employability. The reports note that many newer government colleges did not make the list.
