Brad Lightcap, a senior OpenAI executive who joined the company in 2018, is leaving to start a new venture. He announced the move on X, saying he has been thinking about "what would stand in the way of mission success." OpenAI CEO Sam Altman responded, saying he was "excited to work together on what's next." Lightcap had already moved from chief operating officer to a special projects role in April, and the company said his responsibilities had shifted away from day-to-day management, so his departure is not expected to impact teams. He previously worked with Altman at Y Combinator. His departure follows that of Fidji Simo, OpenAI's CEO of AGI deployment, who stepped down in July after medical leave.
