# Pakistan envoy raises Kashmir at I-Day event in Delhi

Pakistan’s Charge d’Affaires in India, Saas Ahmad Warraich, raised the Kashmir issue at the country’s 80th Independence Day celebrations in New Delhi on August 14. He said lasting peace in South Asia depends on resolving the dispute according to UN resolutions and the aspirations of Kashmiri people. Warraich also cited the recent Makkah Joint Defence Agreement between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkiye, calling it a milestone for regional stability. Separately, Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif made sharp remarks directed at India in their Independence Day messages. Zardari claimed Indians believe in ‘Akhand Bharat’ and that Pakistan’s Hindu minority is freer than in India. Sharif called the Indus Waters Treaty a red line, accusing India of suspending it, and warned Pakistan’s desire for peace should not be mistaken for weakness. India has rejected any third-party mediation on Kashmir.
