The Delhi High Court on Tuesday directed the Centre to immediately provide an additional personal security officer to Purnia MP Pappu Yadav while the Union home ministry decides on his request for Y+ security cover. The court was hearing a writ petition filed by Yadav seeking enhanced security after he was attacked at his Delhi residence on August 2, allegedly with a slipper and a knife, during a press conference. Yadav had performed a skit outside Parliament over irregularities in Ram Temple donations. He claims death threats including a public reward of ₹51 lakh for his beheading and a mob gathering outside his wife’s residence. The Centre’s counsel said “adequate security” is already in place and a decision on the request will be made within three weeks.
