Jammu and Kashmir LG Manoj Sinha said Partition's wounds have not healed even after eight decades, speaking at a Srinagar event on Partition Horrors Remembrance Day. He called remembering victims a "duty towards humanity" and thanked PM Modi for observing August 14 as the remembrance day. Sinha said trains from Pakistan arrived filled with corpses, and urged the younger generation to understand the human cost beyond geography. Delhi LG Sardar Taranjit Singh Sandhu, in a letter read at the Partition Museum, warned against reducing Partition to "statistics and dates". He highlighted how refugee neighbourhoods like Lajpat Nagar and Punjabi Bagh shaped Delhi, and stressed preserving survivors' memories. Both LGs described Partition as both tragedy and story of resilience. Sandhu drew on his own family history, saying resilience meant upholding values and serving society. Sinha said refugee families enriched the cultural fabric of areas where they settled. The LGs spoke at separate events on Thursday, ahead of Partition Horrors Remembrance Day on August 14.
