# Passenger arrested after alleged emergency exit attempt on Kochi flight

A passenger was arrested in Kochi after allegedly trying to force open an emergency exit on Batik Air flight OD231 from Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday, police said. The FIR identified him as Jamsheer Athanikkal and alleged that he damaged the exit’s window panel and threatened passengers and cabin crew during the flight, between 9.30 pm and 11.05 pm. Cabin crew restrained him before the situation escalated. The flight landed at Kochi airport at about 2.40 am on Thursday. CISF personnel detained Athanikkal and handed him to police. He faces charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Aircraft Act and Kerala Police Act. The aircraft was inspected, repaired and cleared for its return service, CIAL said. Further investigation is underway.
