A Pentagon review has concluded that US airstrikes against Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen in April 2025 killed 153 civilians and injured 243 others. The unclassified assessment, obtained by The Associated Press and sent to Congress, examined three strikes near Sanaa and the Ras Isa port. The port attack was the deadliest, killing 80 people and injuring 171. US Central Command said at the time the strikes were not intended to harm civilians. It determined the three operations ‘more likely than not’ caused civilian harm. The Houthis have since stepped up attacks on Yemeni government forces, Saudi oil facilities, and Red Sea shipping. Fears are growing that renewed violence could reignite Yemen’s civil war after a 2022 truce.
