# Petrol export duty cut to nil, diesel and ATF levies reduced

The Centre has cut the export duty on petrol to zero for August 15 to 31, while lowering the levy on diesel to Rs 24 per litre and on aviation turbine fuel to Rs 19.5 per litre. The previous rates were Rs 3.5, Rs 25.5 and Rs 22 per litre respectively. The Finance Ministry notification applies to fuel cleared for export. There is no change in excise duty on petrol and diesel sold in India. The government reviews these levies every fortnight, using international prices of crude and refined fuels. It introduced the system in March 2026 to discourage exports and protect domestic availability during the West Asia conflict.
