# PGTI restructures season with Race to DP World India Championship 2026-08-24T23:37:10+00:00 | Sports | Indian Opinion Desk Corroboration: 2 independent outlets The Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) and DP World on Monday launched the Race to DP World India Championship, a season-long competition that restructures the domestic golf calendar to align with the DP World Tour. The 2026 Order of Merit champion will be decided after the season-ending DP World India Championship in October, following nine events through the year. The top 24 players from the Race will earn spots at the $4 million DP World India Championship at Delhi Golf Club, while the top 60 on the PGTI Order of Merit retain playing rights for 2027. PGTI CEO Amandeep Johl said the change ensures the Order of Merit leader does not miss European tournaments. The race ends with the inaugural Rs 2 crore Kapil Dev Invitational Tour Championship in Greater Noida from September 30 to October 3. ## Indian Opinion Analysis Both The Hindu and Hindustan Times cover the launch of the PGTI's restructured season as a straight news event, attributing details to PGTI officials Kapil and Amandeep Johl. The Hindu leads with the structural alignment with the DP World Tour, while Hindustan Times adds Johl's rationale about helping Indian pros reach European events earlier. Neither outlet offers independent analysis or criticism. The key implication is the practical benefit: Indian players will now have a season ending in October, matching the DP World Tour's November start, potentially improving their competitive access. The Kapil Dev Invitational from September 30 to October 3 will test this new calendar's impact. ## Coverage Coverage: 2 sources, 2 neutral - thehindu.com (neutral report) Leads with calendar alignment and quotes PGTI president Kapil on global pathway - hindustantimes.com (neutral report) Adds CEO Johl's details on timing change to benefit Indian pros in Europe This story was synthesised by AI from the 2 sources linked above.
