The company, selected by NASA in 2024 under its $476 million Commercial SmallSat Data Acquisition Program, provides hyperspectral Earth observation data to governments and businesses. Its customers span North America, Europe, the Middle East, Australia, Southeast Asia and India. Founded in 2019 by Awais Ahmed and Kshitij Khandelwal, Pixxel employs more than 280 people and has raised $96 million from investors including Google, Blume Ventures, Lightspeed, GrowX Ventures and Techstars. Its satellites analyse about 300 wavelengths to detect crop disease, methane emissions, soil nutrients, mineral deposits and oil leaks.
