The Bharatiya Janata Party has requested Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to provide halts at Muthupet, Adirampattinam, Peravurani and Peralam railway stations for the newly introduced Tambaram – Rameswaram Pamban express.
A team led by the BJP state general secretary Karuppu M. Muruganantham met the Railway Minister at New Delhi on Tuesday and handed over a memorandum containing the above demand. Also accompanying Mr. Muruganantham were the party’s national council member Thanga Varadharajan, Tiruchi Divisional Railway Users Consultative Committee member Abdul Razak of Adirampattinam and a few others.
While thanking the Railway Minister for the introduction of the Pamban Express, Mr. Muruganantham in the memorandum said halts for the train at Peralam, Muthupet, Adirampattinam and Peravurani stations had not been provided.
Several people were using trains on a daily basis at the four stations. After completion of gauge conversion which took a long time, the Pamban Express was the first daily regular train being operated on the Pattukottai – Karaikudi route. The memorandum appealed to the Railway Minister to provide one minute halt for the Pamban Express at the four stations.
