A 35-year-old woman, who was promised a job and pushed into sex work, was rescued from a brothel on GB Road in Central Delhi, police said on Sunday. The manager of the brothel was also arrested during a raid conducted in the red-light area.
The victim, a native of Pergana district in West Bengal, was brought to Delhi by a woman on the pretext of getting her a job three months ago.
She lost contact with her family after arriving in the national Capital. However, around ten days ago, the woman managed to get in touch with her brother and told him about her ordeal.
The brother approached the National Human Rights Commission with the help of a non-governmental organisation, police said.
Based on technical surveillance and manual information, the raid was conducted, and the victim was rescued, they said.
The woman, who has studied till Class V and comes from a poor family, is the youngest among six siblings. She was working as a domestic help in West Bengal after filing for a divorce a year ago.
