The Nalgonda consumer commission on July 31 ordered the post office to pay Rs 35,000 for delay in a PMJJBY insurance claim. Moloth Lala enrolled in the scheme through the post office and died in June 2024. His son's claim was rejected by LIC because the full renewal premium had not been received. The post office said the premium was auto-debited on June 1 and sent to LIC before the death. LIC argued it had flagged remittance shortfalls. Though LIC settled the claim in March 2026, the commission held the post office guilty of deficiency for failing to prove the premium was included in the consolidated remittance. The post master and POSB manager must jointly pay within 45 days or face 12% annual interest.
