Preity Zinta shared a look test photo for Batwara 1947 on the eve of its release. She said it captured the first glimpse of her character Hamida and quoted Rumi: "If everything around seems dark, look again, you may be the light." The Rajkumar Santoshi film, set in Lahore during Partition, stars Sunny Deol, Shabana Azmi and Ali Fazal. It marks Zinta's return after eight years. India Today reports it is inspired by Asghar Wajahat's play. The film clashes with Awarapan 2 on August 14.
