A SC/ST Court in Nalgonda sentenced a man to undergo ten years of rigorous imprisonment for causing the deaths of fifteen farm labourers by recklessly driving a tractor without a valid licence.
The court also slapped a fine of ₹5,000 each on the two accused in the case.
The primary accused, Aluru Venkatanarayana, aged 51, a resident of Lakshmipuram village in Guntur district, was convicted under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act as well relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). He was sentenced to ten years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of ₹5,000.
The second accused, Dulipalla Nageswara Rao, aged 41, a resident of Ravipalem, Peddanandipadu mandal in Guntur district, was also fined ₹5,000 under Section 181 of the Motor Vehicles Act.
This comes seven years after a tractor was illegally used to ferry agricultural labourers in Valigonda town.
Due to the driver’s negligence, the vehicle met with an accident, resulting in the loss of fifteen lives and injuries to seventeen others.
