# Priyanka Gandhi honours Rajiv Gandhi on his birth anniversary 2026-08-21T00:46:19+00:00 | India | Indian Opinion Desk Corroboration: 1 independent outlet Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Thursday paid tribute to her father, former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, on his 82nd birth anniversary, saying he would have been proud of her mother Sonia Gandhi for writing her memoir with heart and honesty. In a post, Priyanka described her parents' relationship as one of the greatest love stories of the time and said she was happy that through the book everyone will know her mother as a brave, loyal and compassionate woman. Earlier, Rahul Gandhi also wrote a note praising Sonia Gandhi's never-ending courage and dignity in the 35 years since Rajiv Gandhi's death. Sonia Gandhi's memoir, titled 'Belonging: A Journey of Love', will be published on November 10 by Alfred A Knopf. It chronicles her journey from childhood in post-war Italy to her life in India after marriage and personal losses. ## Indian Opinion Analysis The memoir, nearly four decades after Rajiv Gandhi's assassination in 1991, is a rare personal account from a figure who has been at the centre of Indian politics but remained intensely private. It arrives as the Gandhi family faces renewed political challenges ahead of state elections. The book's release date, November 10, places it just days before key assembly polls, potentially adding a personal narrative layer to the Congress campaign. The real test will be whether the memoir shifts public perception of Sonia Gandhi beyond her political role as Congress president, especially among younger voters unfamiliar with her early years in India. ## Coverage - timesnownews.com Leads with the tribute and details of the memoir without adding commentary or taking sides.
