# Drunk driving accused crush medical student to death in Rajahmundry

A 29-year-old postgraduate medical student, Priyanka Kanike, died on Sunday after a hit-and-run in Rajahmundry on August 3. Police arrested Suravarapu Daswanth and Andrew Joseph Edwards, who were allegedly drunk and rammed their car into the scooter Priyanka and her friend Umesh were riding. CCTV footage shows the accused hitting the two-wheeler three times and driving over them before fleeing. Priyanka was initially treated in Rajahmundry before being shifted to KIMS Hyderabad, where doctors declared her brain dead. The East Godavari Superintendent of Police said the accused had an argument with mall security, who denied them entry for being drunk. Umesh suffered minor injuries. The FIR was amended from attempting culpable homicide to causing death by negligence after Priyanka died.
