The government told the Rajya Sabha on August 6, 2026, that the Supreme Court’s November 2022 ruling on higher EPS pensions had been implemented uniformly for exempted and unexempted establishments. The statement followed a July 9, 2026, Madras High Court ruling on employees of exempted establishments. Eligible subscribers can contribute 8.33% of actual basic pay and dearness allowance, rather than the Rs 15,000 wage cap, subject to applicable rules. The Economic Times separately reports that the government is considering raising the EPF wage ceiling to Rs 25,000. If approved, the change could lift the maximum pension for 35 years of service from Rs 7,500 to Rs 12,500. Existing pensioners would not receive an automatic increase unless rules are amended retrospectively.
