The Professional Tennis Players Association has released injury data from over 30,000 matches, showing upper-body injuries rose 42% in the first quarter of 2026 compared to last year and arm injuries surged 112%. The PTPA blamed the ATP's decision to expand seven Masters 1000 tournaments to 12-day events, cutting recovery time. The warning follows a wave of withdrawals from the Canadian Open, including Jannik Sinner, Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz. World number three Alexander Zverev said the solution is simple: cut Masters events back to one week. "If you play everything, you spend seven weeks in North America. That is quite a long time," he told reporters. The ATP has previously said players control their own schedules and is working on incentives to limit matches.
