# Night cricket returns to Pulwama, thousands attend opener 2026-08-21T05:20:59+00:00 | Sports | Indian Opinion Desk Corroboration: 2 independent outlets The second edition of the Royal Premier League Pulwama (RPL) opened under floodlights on August 19, drawing around 20,000 spectators to a stadium in the once-volatile district of south Kashmir. Local organiser Irfan Sarkar has arranged digital boards, live streaming and commentary, with ten teams playing all matches after sundown. The Hindu reports the tournament has been described by Pulwama legislator Waheed-ur-Rehmaan Parra as a platform for laughter, smiles and positivity in a region long marked by street uprisings and militancy. IndiaTV News notes fans gathered in large numbers to celebrate the return of the cricket league. Eateries in the area have reported late-night business, with chicken items selling well after 10 p.m., a rarity in the district. The tournament is scheduled to continue under lights, providing nightly entertainment for locals. ## Indian Opinion Analysis Both sources report the return of the Royal Premier League in Pulwama as a positive event, but The Hindu provides significantly more context about the area's history of conflict, including references to past uprisings and militant activity. IndiaTV News focuses tightly on the tournament's return and fan turnout, omitting any explicit mention of past violence or the psychological 'healing' frame The Hindu foregrounds. The measured read: the cricket league is a genuine local success, but The Hindu's deeper reporting reminds readers that this normalcy follows years of turmoil. What to watch: whether the league expands and whether nightlife in Pulwama becomes sustained. ## Coverage Coverage: 2 sources, 2 neutral - indiatvnews.com (neutral report) Leads with tournament return, no mention of past conflict or healing. - thehindu.com (neutral report) Emphasises catharsis and healing after conflict, quotes local MLA.
