# Sukhbir Badal attacked at Nanded gurdwara, Pune lawyer arrested

Shiromani Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Singh Badal was attacked with a kirpan at Gurdwara Mata Sahib Devan Ji Mugat near Nanded on Thursday. The 62-year-old alleged attacker, Jaspal Singh, was arrested at the spot. Badal suffered injuries to his right hand and received two to three stitches. A police inspector was also injured while intervening. Badal is in stable condition and out of danger, reports said. Jaspal Singh, a Pune-based lawyer with commerce and law degrees, had reportedly served as a sewadar at the gurdwara for two years. During preliminary questioning, he cited anger over Punjab’s drug menace, but police said his exact motive was not established. The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad and local police are investigating his background, possible links and security arrangements.
