# Rabi ul Awwal begins Aug 15 as moon not sighted in Hyderabad

The crescent of Rabi ul Awwal 1448 AH was not sighted in Hyderabad on August 13, the Central Moon Sighting Committee of the Sadar Majlis Ulama-e-Deccan announced. The committee cited cloudy skies over the city. Reports from Adilabad, Kapra and Nanded also failed to confirm the sighting despite clear weather in some areas. Consequently, Friday, August 14, will be observed as the 30th of Safar, and Rabi ul Awwal will begin on Saturday, August 15. Eid Milad-un-Nabi will be observed on Wednesday, August 26. Separately, the International Astronomical Centre in Abu Dhabi photographed the crescent at 1:30 pm UAE time on the same day. The UAE has declared a public holiday on August 28 for Prophet Muhammad’s birthday.
