MLA Kaushik Chowdhury and a corporation official visited Bandar Haat to identify a site. Poor farmers from surrounding areas bring vegetables and fruits to these haats but often sell unsold produce at throwaway prices for lack of storage. The cold storages will let them preserve produce and sell later at better rates. Gour Chandra Saha, secretary of Bandar Haat committee, said the municipality had surveyed the market earlier for the same project but work did not progress.
