Speaking to Screen Rant, the actor said his character had to remain barefoot for a large part of the story, but rough terrain made action scenes difficult. The slippers were later digitally removed by visual effects company DNEG. Ramayana is planned as a two-part film. Kapoor plays Lord Ram, alongside Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana and Sunny Deol as Hanuman. Producer Namit Malhotra and Tiwari said Kapoor was their first choice for the lead.
