# Rape accused escapes Gujarat hospital, recaptured after 11-hour manhunt

Govind Rameshbhai Mahonia, a rape and POCSO accused, escaped police custody at Vadodara's SSG Hospital on August 6. He fled when handcuffs were removed for an injection near the canteen. Despite an immediate search with drones and loudspeakers, he evaded capture for nearly five hours inside an under-construction building. The Vadodara Crime Branch then tracked him through CCTV and intelligence, arresting him near Chhani Canal at 10.30 pm. A case under Section 262 of the BNS has been filed for escaping lawful custody, and police are investigating procedural lapses.
