The composition first appeared in the 1975 film 'Geet Gaata Chal', starring Sachin Pilgaonkar and Sarika. Ravindra Jain composed the melody, and Jaspal Singh sang the popular version. The song is based on a chaupai from Tulsidas' Ramayan. It later featured in Ramanand Sagar's iconic 1987 television series 'Ramayan', with Jain himself singing the chaupai. In 2023, the song was recreated for Om Raut's film 'Adipurush' with vocals by Sachet-Parampara, introducing it to a new generation.
