A day after Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal met PM Narendra Modi, the party has backed the Women’s Reservation Bill and the government’s delimitation plan. At a Chandigarh meeting of senior leaders on Saturday, SAD demanded immediate implementation of women’s quota and supported a uniform 50% increase in Lok Sabha seats for all states. The party had opposed the delimitation bill in April, describing it as discriminatory towards Punjab. The meeting has rekindled speculation about a possible SAD-BJP alliance ahead of Punjab assembly elections due early next year. The two former allies split in 2020 over the farm laws.
