Srisailam Devasthanam conducted Sahasra Ghatabhishekam for Lord Mallikarjuna Swamy on Monday, the fourth day of a five-day Varuna Yagam seeking timely rains. Priests collected sacred water from the Krishna River at Pathalaganga and carried it in ceremonial vessels to the Sri Bhramaramba Mallikarjuna Swamy temple. The ritual bathing with a thousand pots of water included prayers at the Nandi temple, village deity Ankalamma, and Lord Veerabhadraswamy. The Deccan Chronicle reports that drought-like conditions in Rayalaseema prompted the prayers, with 36 ritviks and Vedic scholars participating.
