Japanese ambassador ONO Keiichi launched Japan Month 2026 at his Delhi residence on Wednesday, with sake as the star. He said the drink pairs surprisingly well with Indian cuisine. Sake sommelier Maaya Takaoka explained that umami, low acidity and lack of tannins help sake complement spices without clashing. Yuichi Hashiba, a sixth-generation sake brewer on his first visit to India, praised the country's energy and market. The evening also featured a violin performance from the film Roja.
